In a biblical context, discernment is the God-given ability to distinguish between good and evil, truth and deception. It involves spiritual insight, guided by Scripture and the Holy Spirit, to recognize God’s will in any situation (Hebrews 5:14).
Discerning truth requires aligning everything with God’s Word. If a message, decision, or belief contradicts Scripture, it is not from God. Prayer, wise counsel, and the peace of the Holy Spirit also confirm whether something is true or deceptive (1 Corinthians 2:14).
Self-examination through prayer and Scripture helps believers discern their spiritual state. The Holy Spirit convicts and guides (John 16:13), while the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) reveals whether one is walking in alignment with God.
