As Christians, we are often preached about leading a spirit-filled life. We have come across instances where the pastor speaks about it and mentions the ways to attain it. Paul has mentioned that we either live by the Spirit or by the flesh. Both do not exist together. As believers of the Lord Jesus, we have to wake up every day to give ourselves to God and let Him guide us. We are mere followers. We have to understand that God is at work. Unless we realize this truth, we are missing an important part of our life. In this blog, we will walk you through how to live a Spirit-filled life.
What is Spirit-filled Life?
Before understanding how to live a spirit-filled life, there are many confusions on what is a spirit-filled life. Let us go through that first. The Trinity consists of the God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit completes the Trinity. It is through the Holy Spirit that God leads us to the path of righteousness – the path to the heavenly kingdom of Jesus. As a Christian, it is one of the prime duties to spread the prophetic word of God to non-believers. To achieve that, we have to let the Holy Spirit fill us or live a Spirit led life.
Technically, the term “spirit-filled” indicates a life that is guided/governed by the Holy Spirit. When you fill your life with the Holy Spirit, you are surrendering yourself to follow the guidance from the Holy Spirit. He will guide you while making decisions and to stay away from the sinful paths in life.
“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18)
Paul has made it clear to Christians that we can be filled with the Holy Spirit. Rather, than getting drunk or indulging in bad habits, he guides us to be filled with the Holy Spirit which is the ultimate truth of life.
Ways to Live a Spirit-filled Life
Holy Spirit is here to lead the believers of Jesus to the path of goodness and overcome all the evil within us. Once we start allowing the Holy Spirit to take over us, we will realize that our life is less of frustration and more of happiness.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
Here, we have listed a few ways to live a spirit-led life.
Build your relationship with God
The Lord is the savior and he shall forgive us of our sins. To live a spirit-led life, we have to develop a bond or relationship with God. There are many ways through which we can build this bond. It can be through prayer, reading the Holy Bible, listening to Christian music, or attending Sunday school at Church.
As we start living our way in the name of the lord, we will automatically start living a Spirit-filled life.
Pray to God
The most peaceful task that we can do as Christians is to pray to God. We can pray to God to fill us with the Holy Spirit. Every morning we should pray to the Almighty to fill us with the Holy Spirit to live a better day and follow His path of righteousness. Along with seeking guidance from God in all spheres of our life, we also have to remember that praying to God is not just asking for our wishes to be granted or seeking things in life.
Praying to God is to be listening to His voice and understanding His will which is through filling ourselves with the Holy Spirit.
Spread his prophetic word
God has proclaimed to carry his prophetic word to the non-believers through the prophetic ministries. It is in his prophetic word that lies the message of forgiveness, and a chance to live free of sin. His message carries the way to the heavenly kingdom of Jesus.
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
To be filled with the Holy Spirit and live a spirit-led life, we have to spread the holy words of God and take his message to the non-believers.
Serve the community
As Christians, it is one of our primary responsibilities to help those in need. Jesus paved the way for this attribute when he washed the feet of His disciples and went to the cross to save us. An act of kindness towards others helps us lead a life filled with the Holy Spirit. As we spread kindness and positivity among the community, the Holy Spirit will take control over us and fill us with his Spirit.
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for with such sacrifices, God is pleased.” (Hebrews 13:!6)
As we serve others and the community, we will share the love of God and spread his glory everywhere.
Join hands with other believers
As said in Romans 12:4-5, “…In Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others”, to live a spirit-led life, we have to start involving ourselves in seeking fellowship with others. This act of seeking fellowship strengthens the faith in the lord and His prophetic word. Taking part in the Church activities and working in groups brings us closer to God.
As we take a step closer to God through fellowship and understanding that no one is above the other, we live a Spirit-filled life.
Listen to the Holy Spirit
To live a life that is led by the Holy Spirit, we have to start listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirit being a part of the Trinity, we have to obey the voice in us that guides us on the right path. As we start hearing and practicing the voice of the Holy Spirit, it will fill us. It doesn’t happen in an instant. It happens gradually. Every day, the Holy Spirit fills our souls.
To be filled by Holy Spirit and lead a life based on that is something that we can attain only with utter faith and devotion.
Nurture the Holy Spirit
Having the Holy Spirit within you doesn’t attain the purpose of living a spirit-filled life. We have to continuously cultivate it in our life. We can do it by spreading love, patience, peace, kindness, faithfulness, and self-control. As we empower the Holy Spirit to take control over our lives and liberate ourselves from all worldly temptations, we will truly reach the meaning of spirit-filled life.
It is our duty to stay in touch with the Holy Spirit and seek its guidance in every aspect of our life.
By abiding by these values in our life, we will be able to successfully lead a life filled with the spirit.
