As Christian persecution escalates across East Africa and Sudan, an international humanitarian organization is mobilizing a comprehensive relief effort to support frontline pastors serving in some of the world’s most dangerous regions.
Historic Conference to Serve 500 Sudanese Pastors
Breath of the Spirit International Ministries, under the leadership of founder Dr. Michelle Corral, will host the Fire and Anointing Sudan Pastors Conference this December in Yeida, South Sudan. The initiative comes in partnership with South Sudanese church leaders and represents the ministry’s most urgent humanitarian focus to date. The conference is expected to serve up to 500 Sudanese pastors from high-risk areas including the Nuba Mountains, Khartoum, Darfur, and Port Sudan.
Comprehensive Support for Persecuted Christian Leaders
The Fire and Anointing Pastors Conferences operate on a unique full-sponsorship model that removes all financial barriers for attending clergy. The program covers complete transportation costs, lodging accommodations, all meals during the event, conference materials and training, plus secure transport to and from the event.
Pastors attending the December conference will receive trauma support and counseling for those affected by violence and displacement, ministry training to strengthen their leadership capabilities, essential supplies including food, clothing, and ministry materials, and safe passage through conflict zones to reach the conference location. Each attendee will also receive humanitarian aid to support their communities back home.
A Decade of Service in Crisis Regions
The Fire and Anointing Pastors Conference program was first launched in Egypt during the Mubarak era, specifically designed to support pastors facing arrest and imprisonment, government surveillance, extremist threats, and restrictions on religious freedom. Over more than a decade, the ministry has expanded its reach throughout the region, hosting conferences in Kenya to support pastors in Muslim-majority areas, Uganda to assist displaced pastors in refugee camps, South Sudan to provide aid in conflict-affected zones, and Ethiopia to deliver medical care alongside spiritual support.
Humanitarian Impact Beyond Spiritual Support
The ministry’s humanitarian efforts extend far beyond conference training. In Ethiopia, the 2025 Fire and Anointing Conference provided medical treatment to more than 2,500 individuals through volunteer physicians who donated their time and expertise. This comprehensive approach addresses both the physical and spiritual needs of communities facing persecution and crisis.
In Northern Uganda, the organization continues supporting displaced pastors living in refugee camps, equipping them to serve their fellow refugees through spiritual care and counseling, educational programs, ongoing relief efforts, and community development initiatives. These pastors become multipliers of hope, extending the ministry’s impact far beyond the initial conference. The urgency of this work has only intensified as reports emerge of coordinated attacks on churches and Christian communities throughout Sudan.
The Crisis in Sudan: Why This Matters Now
Sudan currently faces one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with Christian communities experiencing escalating armed conflict throughout the region, church burnings and destruction of religious property, mass displacement of Christian populations, targeted violence against Christian leaders and pastors, and systematic persecution in government-controlled areas. The December conference represents a critical lifeline for pastors who continue ministering under these dangerous conditions, often at great personal risk to themselves and their families.
How Outreach Teams Identify Pastors in Need
The ministry employs a systematic approach to reaching pastors in crisis. Field reconnaissance teams travel into conflict-affected and remote regions, working with local church networks to locate leaders in need. They conduct crisis assessments to evaluate the specific needs of each pastor and community, then arrange safe coordination for secure transportation and logistics. The process doesn’t end with the conference—the ministry maintains relationships and provides ongoing follow-up support to pastors long after they return home.
About Dr. Michelle Corral and Breath of the Spirit Ministries
Dr. Michelle Corral has dedicated over 47 years to serving persecuted Christian communities in crisis regions worldwide. As the founder of Breath of the Spirit International Ministries, she has pioneered a model of pastoral support that combines spiritual training with practical humanitarian aid. Her work spans multiple continents and has touched thousands of Christian leaders facing persecution, poverty, and conflict.
Beyond East Africa and Sudan, Breath of the Spirit International Ministries has provided support to persecuted pastors and Christian communities in Egypt, India, various Middle Eastern nations, and conflict zones across Africa. This global reach demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to serving Christian leaders wherever persecution threatens their lives and ministries. Sudan ranks as the fifth most dangerous country in the world for Christians, with more than 165 churches forced to close since the current conflict began in 2023.
How the Full-Sponsorship Model Works
The comprehensive support system ensures that financial constraints never prevent a pastor in need from attending. Before the conference, outreach teams arrange safe transportation from remote areas, with all travel costs covered by the ministry and security considerations addressed for pastors traveling from dangerous zones. During the conference, complete lodging accommodations are provided along with all meals throughout the event, conference materials and resources, and medical care available on-site. After the conference, safe return transportation is arranged, humanitarian supplies are provided to take back to communities, an ongoing support network is established, and follow-up assistance is coordinated to ensure lasting impact.
The Urgency of the December Conference
With conflict intensifying throughout Sudan and Christian persecution reaching critical levels, the December conference comes at a pivotal moment. Pastors serving in the Nuba Mountains, Khartoum, Darfur, and Port Sudan face daily threats to their safety while continuing to minister to their congregations. Christians in Sudan are being persecuted by both warring factions, facing not only violence but also severe food shortages and discrimination in aid distribution.
This gathering will provide not only practical training and humanitarian relief but also a rare opportunity for fellowship and encouragement among Christian leaders who often minister in isolation and constant danger.
A Model of Sustainable Ministry Support
The Fire and Anointing Pastors Conferences represent more than one-time humanitarian events. The program creates a sustainable support network that maintains ongoing relationships with pastors after conferences, provides continued humanitarian assistance, facilitates communication among persecuted Christian leaders, mobilizes rapid response during crisis situations, and builds regional networks of mutual support. This long-term approach ensures that the impact of each conference extends far beyond the event itself, creating lasting change in communities facing persecution.
Looking Ahead: Expanding the Impact
As persecution of Christians continues to intensify in multiple regions worldwide, the need for programs like the Fire and Anointing Pastors Conferences grows increasingly urgent. The December Sudan conference represents the latest expansion of a proven model that has already impacted thousands of Christian leaders.
The ministry continues seeking ways to expand its reach to additional regions where Christian pastors face persecution, violence, and humanitarian crisis.
